He achieved a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Twente. He has worked in project management functions in various organisations and has more than ten years experience in ICT projects and Free Software in the Netherlands, Spain and Latin America. In 2002 he founded the company xlocal.com (services on Free Software). In 2005 he initiated the FP6-funded SELF Platform to facilitate the collaborative creation of educational materials. He has participated in many initiatives to promote the use of free technologies.
